Internet of Things
What are Internet of Things?
The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the vast world of interconnected devices with embedded sensors which are capable of providing data, and in some cases, being controlled, across the Internet. It’s in the devices students bring to campus. It’s in smart controls for building thermostats and lighting system. It’s in campus services like the smart electric grid components. Around 28 billion connected devices are forecast by 2021, of which close to 16 billion will be related to IoT base on the Ericsson Mobility Report June 2016 report.
Innovation Opportunity & Challenges
We're already seeing some campu experiment with IoT, such as gas leaking or temperature sensors with realtime notifications when certain conditions are met. The AWS IoT Enterprise Buttons experience is not only the oppertunity for us to explor the IoT technology, but also to assess the campus on IoT Readiness and establish a campus IoT adoption Framework.
