Phishing Scam Job Opportunity or Internship
Greetings Students,
We are hearing reports of a phishing scam sent via text, phone, or email to students that appear to be from departments at Fresno State.
A common theme is to offer students an internship or job opportunity using the names of faculty members or departments to validate their message. Although many of these are legitimate, some are not. Here are ways to recognize the difference.
Beware if an email or Job Posting:
- does not indicate the company name
- comes from an email address that doesn't match the company name, such as @gmail.com instead of @mail.fresnostate.edu
- does not include the employer's contact information, such as the title of the person sending the email, company address, and phone number
- is vague and includes typos and grammatical errors
Beware if you are asked to:
- pay an application fee
- provide your credit card or bank account numbers
- send payments by app (Venmo, PayPal, Cash App), wire service, courier, or other means
- send the following information in an email:
- address
- birthday
- gender
- copy of your ID or driver's license
- social security number
- bank account information
