- What is Proofpoint?
Proofpoint is an email security service that works alongside Gmail to help protect Fresno State email from suspicious and potentially harmful messages. - Why does Fresno State use Proofpoint?
To strengthen email security, reduce phishing and other threats, and help protect University accounts and information. - Who is affected by Proofpoint?
Faculty, staff, students, and users of shared or departmental Fresno State email accounts. - Do I need to install anything?
No. Proofpoint provides standard email protection without requiring users to install additional software.
- Will Proofpoint change how I use Gmail?
You can continue using Gmail as usual. Some incoming messages may be filtered, quarantined, or blocked if they appear suspicious. - What is a Proofpoint quarantine?
A secure holding area for email that may be unwanted or suspicious. Certain quarantined messages may be available for you to review. - Why did I receive a quarantine digest?
It is a notification about messages held for review. Receiving a digest does not mean your account has been compromised. - Why do some links in my email look different?
Proofpoint may modify links to check whether a website is safe when you click it.
- Can Proofpoint block legitimate email?
Yes. Automated security filtering may occasionally identify legitimate messages as suspicious. Technology Services can help review email delivery issues. - Does Proofpoint replace Gmail's spam protection?
No. Proofpoint provides an additional layer of security alongside Gmail. - Does Proofpoint examine email content?
Proofpoint analyzes email content, links, attachments, and related security indicators to detect potential threats.
- What should I do if an expected email is missing?
Check Gmail Spam and your Proofpoint quarantine. If you still cannot locate the message, contact the Technology Service Desk. - Where can I find detailed instructions?
